Cloverglen Finance, a small-business funding broker in Muncie, Indiana, matches funding structures to four sectors partners commonly fund: medical and dental practices, retail and wholesale, construction and restaurants. This page gives Delaware County Census figures for each and the structures that usually fit. Lending partners make credit decisions and set rates and terms.
The Delaware County, Indiana employer mix
Of the county's 2,314 employer establishments in 2023, retail trade had 382, health care and social assistance 341, accommodation and food services 227 and construction 188 (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Health care carried the largest payroll by a wide margin, about $604.1 million.
Medical and dental practices
Ambulatory health care, which covers physician, dental and other practitioner offices, had 220 employer establishments in Delaware County in 2023, with 3,661 employees and about $226.2 million in annual payroll (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Practices finance clinical equipment, build-outs and the wait for insurer payments. Read medical and dental practice financing for the detail.
Retailers and wholesalers
Retail had 382 employer establishments and 5,909 employees in 2023, and wholesale another 96 establishments; 510 retail businesses also operated with no paid employees in 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023; U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024). For a store, the funding question is usually stock bought before it sells, which is what inventory financing is built for.
Construction and the trades
Construction had 188 employer establishments in 2023, 57.4 percent of them with fewer than five employees, plus 705 construction businesses with no paid employees in 2024. Specialty trade contractors made up 114 of the employer establishments and building construction 57 (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023; U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024).
Permits for new homes rose from 82 units in 2023 to 173 in 2024 and 328 in 2025, and 234 of the 2025 units were in buildings with five or more units (U.S. Census Bureau, Building Permits Survey). Contractors usually need equipment financing and working capital to cover materials and labor before a draw or final payment arrives.
Restaurants and food service
Delaware County had 184 restaurants and other eating places with paid employees in 2023, employing 4,773 people with an annual payroll of about $78.4 million. Only 22 of them, 12.0 percent, had fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023), so most carry a significant weekly payroll. Kitchens finance refrigeration, cooking lines and point-of-sale systems, and restaurants are frequent targets of merchant cash advance offers, which are not loans.
Businesses outside these four
Partners also consider many other service and professional businesses, case by case. Requests from farms and trucking firms fall outside what we handle. For the county's full sector breakdown, see figures on local firms.
